Make Tapeboard yours

Set up your screen the way you trade: switch layouts, save your own, pop panels onto a second monitor, jump anywhere with the command palette, and turn down the noise with Calm Mode.

Tapeboard remembers how you arrange it. This page covers the controls that change how the screen looks and behaves. Settings for timezone, extended hours and the top ticker bar are on Preferences.

How to switch layouts on the Scanner

  1. Open Scanner from the sidebar.
  2. In the toolbar, next to View, click Scanner Only (or Panel Grid). A row of layout buttons appears: Pre-market, Open, Power, Swing, Penny, AH (after hours) and Auto.
  3. Click one. It loads a set of scans and panels for that part of the day. Auto picks the layout that matches the time of day.
  4. Click Workspace to go back to the default view with charts, quote and order panels next to your scans.

Panel Grid is for wide desktop screens and is not on phones.

How to save your own workspace

  1. Rearrange the panels until the screen looks right. Drag a panel by its header to move it.
  2. In the toolbar, click the workspace name (it says Untitled until you save), then Save As.
  3. Type a name and click Save.
  4. To use it later, click the workspace name and pick it from the list. You can rename or delete a saved workspace from the same list.

Saving works on every plan. Panel Grid is a Pro view: there, Pro holds 3 saved layouts of your own and Terminal has no limit.

How to pop a panel out into its own window

  1. Sign in. Pop-out is for signed-in accounts.
  2. Find the small arrow-out icon on the panel header. Hover it to see Pop out to a new window.
  3. Click it. The panel opens in a separate browser window with the same ticker and settings.
  4. Drag that window to your second monitor.

You can pop out a chart, a quote, an order book or a scanner panel.

How to back up or share your layout

  1. Open Settings and stay on the Account tab.
  2. Find the Workspace layout card. It covers your chart panels, watchlist and top ticker bar.
  3. Click Export layout to download a file.
  4. To load a layout, click Import layout and choose the file. Tapeboard reloads with it applied.
  5. Copy AI builder prompt copies a prompt you can paste into an AI chat to describe a layout and get a file back.

How to use the command palette

  1. Press ⌘K (Ctrl + K on Windows and Linux), or click the search box at the top of the sidebar.
  2. Type a ticker or a page name. Press Enter to open the top result. A ticker opens its research page.
  3. Start with / to search tickers only, or > to jump to a page.
  4. Start with ? to ask the AI a question. This needs Pro.

How to switch light, dark or system theme

  1. Open Settings, then the Preferences tab.
  2. Under Appearance, next to Theme, pick System, Dark or Light.
  3. System follows your device's light or dark setting and changes when it does.

Your theme choice follows your account to other devices. The Design row below it switches between New design (default) and Legacy terminal and is remembered on this device only.

How to turn on Calm Mode

  1. Open Settings, then Preferences.
  2. Turn on Calm mode.
  3. The flashing price cells stop, the scrolling ticker strips at the top are hidden, colors soften, and News Audio stops playing.

Your numbers still update. Calm Mode only removes the noise around them, and it syncs to your other devices.

How to reduce motion

  1. In Settings → Preferences, turn on Reduce motion.
  2. Animations such as row slides and pulses stop. Your device's own reduce-motion setting is respected as well.

Reduce motion is remembered on this device.

Good to know

  • Loading a saved layout with a key: ⌘1 to ⌘5 on the Scanner. See Keyboard shortcuts.
  • The layout file does not include your scanner presets or alerts.

If something doesn't work

  • No pop-out icon: sign in first, and use a desktop browser. Your browser may also block the new window. Allow pop-ups for tapeboard.com.
  • Import says the file is not a layout: use a file exported from Export layout, unedited.
  • Save As is missing on a phone: layouts are set up on desktop. See Tapeboard on your phone.
