Preferences

Preferences is the fourth tab in Settings. Most rows save the moment you change them, and several follow your account to your other devices. You need to be signed in.

How to open Preferences

1. Click Settings at the bottom of the sidebar. On a phone, tap More, then Settings.
2. Click the Preferences tab. The address becomes tapeboard.com/settings#preferences, so you can bookmark it.

How to set the theme and Calm Mode

1. Under Appearance, next to Theme, choose System, Dark or Light.
2. In the Preferences card, turn Calm mode on to quiet flashing colors and the scrolling strips. Turn Reduce motion on to stop animations.

How to set chart, time and data defaults

1. In the Preferences card, open Default Chart Timeframe and pick 1 min, 2 min, 5 min, 15 min, Daily or Weekly. New charts open on it.
2. Open Timezone Display and pick Eastern (ET), Central (CT), Pacific (PT) or UTC.
3. Turn on Show Extended Hours to see pre-market and after-hours bars on intraday charts and extended-hours quotes in the Scanner. This one is saved to your account.

How to change the top ticker bar

1. Find Top ticker bar in the Preferences card.
2. Type the symbols you want, separated by commas. Use $VIX, $DXY or $TNX for index codes, and BTC for crypto.
3. Click Save ticker bar. The scrolling bar updates right away.
4. Click Reset to defaults to put the standard list back. Then click Save ticker bar.

How to choose what News Audio reads

1. Find News audio channel and pick ALL (every headline), MOVERS + HALTS or MACRO ONLY.
2. Drag News audio volume to set how loud the voice reads in your browser.
3. Start and stop the audio itself from the News Audio button in the Scanner toolbar, or on the News Audio page.

Calm mode stops News Audio until you turn it off.

How to restart the guided tour

1. Scroll to Help.
2. Click Restart Tour. You land on the Dashboard and the tour starts again.

Where the other settings are

• Open tickers in… sits at the bottom of this tab. See Open tickers in your trading app.
• Hotkeys are on the Notifications tab. See Keyboard shortcuts.
• Workspace layout export and import are on the Account tab. See Make Tapeboard yours.

Good to know

• Theme, Calm mode, timezone, extended hours, default timeframe and News Audio settings follow your account. Reduce motion, the Design switch and hotkeys stay on the device you set them on.
• The Design row under Appearance switches between New design (default) and Legacy terminal. The legacy look is being retired.

If something doesn't work

• A change didn't stick on another device: wait a few seconds and reload that device. Reduce motion and hotkeys never sync.
• No sound from News Audio: check that Calm mode is off and the volume is above 0. Browsers also need one click on the page before they allow sound.
