Research a stock
One page per stock with the price, a chart and ten tabs: overview, financials, estimates, insiders, institutions, filings, peers, news and two AI tabs. Start here before you trade a name you do not know.
The Research page is a single file on one company. The top bar has the price and the action buttons. Under it sit a chart and ten tabs that answer the questions traders ask before they enter: what does this company do, is it growing, who is buying it, and what has been filed.

How to open a company's page
- Click AI Research in the sidebar, or press ⌘4.
- Search for a ticker in the box at the top.
- You can also reach it from anywhere a ticker is linked, such as a Scanner row. A ticker in the address, like /research/AAPL, opens straight to it.
- Use the HIST arrows to step back and forward through tickers you looked at recently.
How to read the ten tabs
Click a tab, or press its key when you are not typing in a box: O, F, E, I, H, S, P, N, A, C. The left and right arrow keys move between tabs.
- Overview (O): key numbers such as P/E, margins, debt and beta, plus short interest, the Short Squeeze score, dividends and splits.
- Financials (F): income statement, balance sheet and cash flow. Free accounts see the latest 4 periods.
- Estimates (E): the analyst view with a price target range, earnings surprises, upgrades and downgrades, and the Earnings desk write-up ahead of a report.
- Insider Activity (I): Form 4 buys and sells by executives and directors. Free accounts see the latest 10 rows. See Insider activity.
- Institutions (H): which funds hold the stock and how their positions changed last quarter, from 13F filings. This tab needs Pro.
- SEC Filings (S): recent 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K and Form 4 filings, with a link to the full Filings page.
- Peers (P): similar companies to compare against.
- News (N): recent headlines for the company. Free accounts see 5.
- AI Briefing (A): an AI summary of the company from its fundamentals, estimates, earnings, insider activity and news. This tab needs Pro.
- AI Chat (C): ask questions about the stock and follow up in a conversation. This tab needs Pro.
How to get a plain-English read
- Click Break it down in the top bar.
- Read the panel: what is moving the stock, the bull case, the bear case, risk flags and unknowns.
- Free accounts get three new breakdowns a day. See Break it down for the full rules.
How to see key levels
- Open the AI menu in the top bar. The menu shows a lock if your plan does not include it.
- Choose Key Levels for support, resistance, pivots, range and volume around the current price.
- Choose AI Briefing in the same menu to jump to that tab.
How to place a paper trade or set an alert
- Click Trade to open a quick paper-trade ticket for the stock. Fills are practice money, not real orders.
- Click Alert to set a price or volume alert. Tapeboard checks it on its servers even when you are away. See Chart alerts.
- Click the watchlist button to add or remove the stock from a watchlist.
How to compare with another stock
- Open the More actions menu in the top bar.
- Choose Compare Metrics and type a second ticker, then press Enter.
- The button changes to VS and the ticker while the comparison is on. Open the menu again to clear it.
For price performance over time, use the Compare page or the COMPARE button on a chart.
Good to know
- Arriving from a Scanner row can land you on the AI Briefing tab. Click Overview to go back.
- Data for logged-out visitors is delayed. Signed-in accounts see live data.
- Every AI tool here is a summary of data, not investment advice.
If something doesn't work
- A tab shows a lock: Institutions, AI Briefing and AI Chat need Pro. See Pricing.
- Financials show only 4 periods: that is the free-account limit.
- No data for a ticker: check the spelling. Funds and some foreign issuers have no financial statements.
- The keys do nothing: click outside any text box first, then press the key.
