Break it down
One button on any stock that explains, in plain English, what is moving it right now: the news, the bull case, the bear case, the risks and what is still unknown.
Break it down is Tapeboard's quick read on a stock. Press it and you get a short write-up built from live price, volume and headline data. It says what is happening and why it might matter. It does not tell you to buy or sell, and it does not give price targets.
How to run it
- Find the Break it down button. It is in the top bar of a stock's Research page, on rows in the Scanner, Movers, Short Squeeze and Halts, in your watchlist, and in the news reader. In tight rows it shows as a small AI button with a lightning bolt.
- Click it. A panel slides in titled with the ticker and AI: BREAK IT DOWN.
- If a recent breakdown exists, it appears at once with a note such as updated 12m ago. If not, Tapeboard writes a new one. That can take up to a minute.
- Close the panel with the X when you are done.
If the panel says it is putting the breakdown together, leave it open or come back in a minute. Nothing is used up while it waits.
How to read the five sections
- What's moving it: the headlines and data behind today's move, quoted from the news where there is news.
- Bull case: the points in favor of the stock going up.
- Bear case: the points against.
- Risk flags: things that could go against you.
- Unknowns: what the data does not show. If there is no news, it says so plainly.
Each section has a few short bullets. A disclaimer at the end says this is not investment advice.
How to refresh it
- Scroll to the bottom of the panel.
- Click Refresh to write a new one now instead of using the saved version.
- A refresh counts against your daily allowance, so use it when the stock has moved a lot since the time shown.
How many you get
Reading a saved breakdown is always free and needs no account. Writing a new one has a daily limit:
- Not signed in: one new breakdown a day.
- Free account: three new breakdowns a day. The count resets at midnight UTC.
- Pro and Terminal: no separate limit. New breakdowns share a daily AI budget with the rest of Tapeboard's AI tools, which is 150 a day on Pro and 400 on Terminal.
How to go further
- On the Research page, open the AI menu and choose Key Levels for support, resistance, pivots, the day's range and volume. This needs Pro.
- Open the AI Chat tab on the Research page to ask questions about the stock. AI Chat needs Pro and allows up to 40 messages a day.
- Pro accounts can find past AI answers again in AI history.
Good to know
- The write-up is built only from the data Tapeboard has for the stock at that moment. It can be thin for small or quiet names.
- A breakdown is kept for about 12 hours, so pressing the button twice in a row shows the same text.
- Set an alert from the same panel if a level or event matters to you.
If something doesn't work
- It says you have used your free breakdown: sign up for a free account for three a day, or wait for the reset.
- The panel stays on a loading message: the writer is busy. Close it and try again in a minute.
- The text looks old: press Refresh, if you have breakdowns left today.
- The button is missing: it works on stock tickers. Look for it on the Research page or a Scanner row.
