Chart layouts

Put two, three or four charts on one screen, link them so they follow the same symbol or timeframe, and save the arrangement to your account.

A layout puts several charts side by side, for example one symbol on 1m, 5m and 1D, or an index next to the stock you are trading. Layouts are on desktop and need a Pro plan. Free accounts get the single chart.

How to show 2, 3 or 4 charts

  1. Open Charts in the sidebar.
  2. In the layout bar at the top, click the layout you want: 1 chart, 2 chart, 3 chart (2+1) or 4 chart (2x2).
  3. Each chart is a full chart of its own, with its own symbol, timeframe, chart type and drawings. Click a chart to make it the active one, then type a ticker or pick a timeframe for it.

Free accounts see the layout buttons locked with a note that the grid needs a paid plan.

  1. Find the small colored square at the right end of a chart's header. Its tooltip reads Click to link until you use it.
  2. Click it to give the chart a link color. Each click steps to the next color, and one more click after the last color turns linking off.
  3. Give two charts the same color. Now when you change the symbol in one, the other changes with it.
  4. If a linked chart falls out of step, click Re-sync in the layout bar. It pushes the symbol of the leftmost chart to every other chart with the same color.
  1. Link at least two charts with the same color. A ⇄T button in that color appears in the layout bar.
  2. Click it to turn timeframe sync on. Changing the timeframe on one linked chart now changes the others.
  3. Click it again to let each chart keep its own timeframe.

For a multi-timeframe view of one symbol, give the charts the same color and leave timeframe sync off. The symbol follows along and each chart keeps its own timeframe.

How to save your layout

  1. Set up the charts you want.
  2. Click Save layout, or press Ctrl+S (⌘S on a Mac). The button is only active while you have unsaved changes and shows Saved when it is done.
  3. Your layout is stored in your account and comes back the next time you open Charts.

If you leave the page with unsaved changes, Tapeboard asks before you go.

Good to know

  • Indicators added on one chart can be kept in step across the others. See Chart indicators.
  • The chart toolbar is the same on every chart in the layout. See Charts.

If something doesn't work

  • The layout buttons are locked: the grid needs a Pro plan. See Pricing.
  • Charts do not follow each other: check that they share the same link color, then click Re-sync.
  • The timeframe changes on one chart only: timeframe sync is off for that color. Click the ⇄T button for it.
  • Your layout did not come back: it was not saved. Click Save layout before you close the page.
