Scanner sounds and halt alerts

Hear a sound when a stock enters a scan, choose a different sound for each kind of event, and get a pop-up when a stock you watch is halted.

You cannot watch six lists at once, so the scanner can make a sound instead. A new name in a scan, a halt, a squeeze or a price alert can each have its own tone. Sounds are free on every plan and start turned off.

How to turn scanner sounds on

  1. Look for SND OFF in the top bar.
  2. Click it. It changes to SND ON.
  3. Your browser may need one click on the page before it plays audio. If a hint appears, click it.
  4. Press M at any time to mute or unmute all scanner audio.

Each panel has a bell. Click it to mute or unmute that panel only. Click the sound name beside it to pick that panel's tone and set Quiet after a sound, which sets a pause before that panel can play again.

How to choose a sound for each event

  1. Click the small arrow beside SND to open Scanner audio.
  2. Set Default tone, Volume and Refire every (Fast 30 seconds, Normal 5 minutes, Calm 15 minutes). Refire is how soon the same stock can chime again.
  3. In Sound pack, each event has an ON or OFF button, a sound menu and a play button.
  4. Click TEST ALL to hear every sound in turn.

The events are SCAN HIT, NEW HIGH, NEW LOW, GAP UP, GAP DOWN, VOLUME SPIKE, HALT, RESUME, NEWS PING, SQUEEZE, PRICE BELL and RULE MET. Four extra sounds, GLASS, PULSE, BLIP and KLAXON, can replace any of them.

How to use News Audio

News Audio reads breaking headlines aloud, all day.

  1. Click NEWS AUDIO in the top bar. On a phone, tap Audio in the scan tabs row. In the left menu, the small speaker at the bottom does the same.
  2. Click it again to stop.
  3. To choose what it reads, go to Settings, then Preferences, and set News audio channel to ALL, MOVERS + HALTS or MACRO ONLY. Set News audio volume there too.

News Audio does not play while Calm mode is on. You can also listen without an account on the radio page.

How halt pop-ups work

  1. When a stock on your watchlist, or the ticker you have selected, is halted, a red HALTED card slides in at the top right. It stays until you close it.
  2. About 30 seconds before the expected resume, an amber RESUMING SOON card appears with a countdown.
  3. When trading restarts, a green RESUMED card shows for 12 seconds.
  4. Click a HALTED card to open that stock's research page.

To choose whether halts also reach your phone or email, go to Settings, then Notifications, and set the Halt alerts row. The master mute there does not silence halts.

How to mute everything fast

  • Press M on the scanner.
  • Or turn on Calm mode in Settings, then Preferences. It removes flashing, ticker strips and News Audio.
  • On a phone, scanner chimes and vibration follow your panel bells and the master mute in Settings, then Notifications.

Good to know

  • Halt alerts ignore the refire setting, because a halt is a single event.

If something doesn't work

  • No sound at all: check SND says ON, the panel bell is on, and the tab is not muted in your browser. Click the page once to enable audio.
  • Only some events are silent: open Scanner audio and check the ON and OFF buttons in Sound pack.
  • Too many chimes: set Refire every to Calm, or set Quiet after a sound on that panel.
