Import Interactive Brokers history
Bring your Interactive Brokers trades into the Tapeboard journal with a one-time CSV file, or connect once and let new fills sync every weekday evening.
Interactive Brokers does not hand out trade history through a simple login, so there are two routes. Connect once and Tapeboard pulls new fills for you, or upload a Flex Query CSV yourself. Both are free on every plan.
How to connect auto-sync
- In Journal, click Import / Sync.
- Find the IBKR Flex card and click Connect IBKR.
- Paste your Flex Web Service token and the numeric query ID of a Flex Query that includes the fields listed in the next section.
- Click Verify & Connect.
- That is it. Tapeboard syncs on weekday evenings, and the card shows the last sync time and any error.
Your token is stored encrypted. Click to disconnect at any time: your existing trades stay and future syncing stops.
How to make the Flex Query in Interactive Brokers
- Sign in to the Interactive Brokers Client Portal and go to Performance & Reports → Flex Queries.
- Create a Trade Confirmation or Activity query.
- Include at least: Symbol, AssetClass, CurrencyPrimary, TradeDate, DateTime, Quantity, Price, IBCommission and Buy/Sell.
- For options, also add UnderlyingSymbol, Put/Call, Strike and Expiry.
- Find the query ID in the Flex Web Service section.
How to import a one-time CSV instead
- Run your Flex Query in Interactive Brokers and export it as CSV.
- In Tapeboard, open Journal and click Import / Sync.
- Click Upload CSV file, at the top or under the Tradervue box, and choose the file.
- The Interactive Brokers layout is detected on its own.
What gets imported
- Stocks and options. Stock fills are paired into round-trip trades, including scaled entries and exits. Options are paired per contract with the 100 times multiplier.
- Commissions, prices and times come straight from your export.
- No duplicates. Re-importing a file, or syncing over trades you already imported, skips the repeats.
- Columns are matched by name, so the order does not matter.
- Futures and non-USD rows are skipped.
Good to know
- Add a stop-loss to imported trades in the journal editor to unlock R-multiple stats. Broker exports do not include stops.
- Coming from Tradervue instead? See Switch from Tradervue.
If something doesn't work
- Connect fails with a token error: the token must be at least 10 characters and the query ID must be a number. Copy both again from Flex Web Service.
- Trades are missing: check the query has every field above, then export again.
- The file is not recognized: Tapeboard opens a column-mapping screen so you can match columns yourself.
- Sync shows an error: the card names it. If it stays, email support@tapeboard.com.
